Ruth Perkinson, 91, of Columbia, MO
Ruth Perkinson, a missionary who served in the Church of the Nazarene for forty years went home to be with Jesus, Tuesday, January 24, 2012. She attended Kansas City College and Bible School in Overland Park, KS, Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, OK, and Wycliff School of Linguistics in Norman, OK. Ruth loved people and spent forty years serving as a missionary in Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay, and Puerto Rico. She worked with her husband, Oather Perkinson, in evangelism and Bible Institues where ministers were trained. Funeral services were held Friday, January 27th at Columbia First Church of the Nazarene. Memorial donations may be made to Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, or another ministry of your choosing. Mary Christina (Sutton) Wilson, 93
Mary Christina Wilson, went home to be with Jesus, Wednesday, January 25th. Christina Wilson served beside her husband, Joseph Henry Wilson, in the Church of the Nazarene for forty years. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 28th at Macon Church of the Nazarene. The family suggests memorials to the Macon Church of the Nazarene. Rev. William A. Self, 83
USAR Ret. Chaplain (Col) "Bill" Amos Self went home to be with Jesus, Sunday, February 5th. Bill spent 30 years as a Chaplain in the United States Reserves, pastored for 36 years in Texas, Arkansas and Missouri, worked 30 years in education, working last for the Pattonville School District in St. Louis, Missouri before retiring in 1989 to the Cuba area, where he enjoyed his farm and raising sheep, goats and other animals. Funeral services were held February 8th at the Rolla Church of the Nazarene. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rolla Church of the Nazarene in Bill's memory. Many on the district will remember Lester and Lucy Anderson who pastored on our district and worked in the district office for several years before retiring and moving to Arizona in 2004. On Friday, November 4, Lucy went home to be with Jesus. Her funeral was Tuesday, November 8, in Mesa, Arizona. You may address cards to Lester at their home: 2539 S. Copperwood Mesa, AZ 85212. Obituary for Rev. Ray Thompson

(Donald) Ray Thompson, age 49, of Bridgeton, MO, died suddenly of a massive heart attack Monday, March 28, 2011. He was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He was the Pastor to Gateway Central Church of the Nazarene for nearly eight years and a pastor in the Church of the Nazarene for over 25 years. He is survived by his wife, Tamberlyn Perkins Thompson; two sons Rev. Dusty and Lisa Thompson of Florissant, MO and Rev. Heath and Stacy Thompson of Tallahassee, FL; parents, Donald and Irma Thompson of Wheelersburg, OH; two sisters, Debbie (Dave) Thompson Braden of Pataskla, OH and Cathy (Jim) Thompson Lintz of Franklin Furnace, OH; one grandson, Christian Paul Thompson of Florissant, MO, many nieces and nephews, and loved family members. He was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Thompson Noel and grandparents, Charles and Carrie Adams Thompson and Estel and Ruth Colley.

Office Staff Update

Following is an update from Rev. Palmer:

As many of you know, we are in the midst of a significant transition in the district office. As a part of the reorganization, both Gary Daud and Pat Morrison will be moving on to other positions. Gary has served as our office manager/treasurer for nearly 7 years, and Pat has served as our office secretary for 6 years. We sincerely appreciate their work and contribution to the district, and are thankful for their support and effort in making the Missouri District an efficient ministry. We will miss them and pray God’s blessing upon them. Pats final day in the office is January 6, 2011, she will be working part time for South County Church of the Nazarene. Gary will begin a new ministry on December 27, working as a hospice chaplain out of Washington, Missouri. Again, I appreciate the privilege of working with both Pat and Gary. They have certainly been a great asset to the team. I am pleased to introduce you to the newest members of our office staff:

Rachel Africano

Rachel Africano will be serving as our District Administrative Assistant. Rachel is a member of the Gateway Central Church of the Nazarene. She is a graduate of Regent University, with a degree in Leadership and Management. Rachel is a veteran of the U.S. Army and has served as a missionary in Kyrgyzstan. We welcome Rachel to our district team and know she will serve well.

Kevin Muttschall

Kevin Muttschall will be serving as our new District Treasurer. Kevin has been a member of the Missouri district for many years, having served as NYI president among other positions. He is currently the pastor of the Fenton Church of the Nazarene. We welcome Kevin to this new position.

We are thankful to God for his leadership and provision during this time of transition. I know there will be a period of adjustment for all of us. Thank you in advance for your patience during this time.

We look forward to a great 2011 as we continue to work together to “make disciples in the nations.”

Columbia First Hires Associate Pastor

Revs. Joe and Kim Purl Accept Call to Wright City

Pastors Joe and Kim Purl, husband and wife who are also both ordained elders, have accepted the call to the Wright City Church of the Nazarene. Joe Purl is a native of St. Louis, having grown up in the former Overland Church of the Nazarene. They have been attending the Missouri District Camp Meeting almost every year. They will be moving to Wright City from Panama City, FL, during the first part of January. We welcome them to the Missouri District Ministry Team.

Work and Witness Team Returns

The 2nd team returned back to St. Louis last Sunday morning with wonderful testimonies of project completed and, more importantly, souls added to the Kingdom. Fred Yates, team director, commented that the two teams not only built a church, but built THE Church! The two pictures at left show the members of the 2nd team and the dedication service, at which John Bouldrey preached the dedicatory message.

Rev. Bill Gronemyer Enters Eternal Rest

Rev. Bill Gronemyer passed away yesterday (Thursday) morning, November 11th. His pastor, Bryan Davis, wrote of him, “Brother Gronemyer has been an important person at New Life. He was in my church at Bridgeton. When we planted, I was surprised he came along. But he didn't come for the music or the Krispy Kremes or because I was such a dynamic speaker. He joined and supported New Life because he loved to see changed lives. And New Life has been all the richer because he has been a part of it. There is a great celebration going on in heaven as one of God's most humble and Christ-like servants enters in. We will miss Brother Gronemyer.” His funeral will be at 2 pm this Monday at Baue Funeral Home located at 3950 West Clay Street in St. Charles. Visitation is Monday from noon until the beginning of the funeral. Internment will follow at St. Charles Memorial Gardens located behind Baue. The family has requested any memorials in Brother Gronemyer's name should be made to New Life.

Barb Bouldrey Memorial Church Work and Witness Update

The first team from the Ecuador Work and Witness Project returned home last weeked and brought back with them incredible reports of the work being accomplished and of God's protecting hand upon them. The team photo on the left is of the first team and of the work site at the end of the first team's stay.

The second group left for Quito this past Monday and will return next weekend. They have already completed all the trusses and have the roof already installed. Pastor John Bouldrey is on the second team. It has been a very emotional time for all those involved.

Luke and Amanda Douglas (Pastor, West Plains Cornerstone) are the proud parents of a new baby boy! Gideon James Douglas arrived on Thursday, August 26th at 2:49 AM. He weighed 8 lbs 5.5 oz and was 21 inches long. They are all doing well, but trying to adapt to Gideon's schedule because he is now the boss! Pastor Luke commented, "We think he's the most handsome baby boy ever!"

Update on Lacie Stevens

Pastor Mike Morrison called this district office today and his niece has been diagnosed with a stage 4 cancer. This is a very aggressive type of cancer. The first surgery only removed 90% of the cancer, so the news was very difficult. Please continue to remember to keep Lacie and all her family in your prayers.

The district office just received word that Lacie did come through surgery this morning and the new drain was successful. The pressure in her inner cranial cavity dropped by half as soon as the new shunt was in place. The doctors are much more optimistic at this point. Please continue to keep her, her parents, and Mike and Pat in your prayers.

Urgent Prayer Needed

The pastors who attended the Spring Advance this past week know about the urgent prayer request for Mike and Pat Morrison’s (Pastor, St. Louis South County) 16 year-old niece, Lacie Stevens. She has been living with them the past three months, but on Monday she was diagnosis with a brain tumor. She had surgery on Wednesday, at which time the doctors were able to remove about 90% of the tumor and things were looking better for her. However, she has taken a dramatic turn for the worse today and Pat and Mike are headed back to the hospital, because the doctors may have to go back in and perform another surgery to relieve the pressure in her skull from the bleeding. They are not able to give her any more medication as she is maxed out at the current time. She is a very, very sick young lady right now and desperately needs God’s healing touch. 2010 Men's Rereat a Success!

Pastor Mark Hager reports that about 240 men attended the 2010 Men's Retreat at Pinecrest Campground last weekend. Rev. Michael Palmer was the special speaker. On Friday, Rev. Palmer challenged the men to walk so close to the feet of the Rabbi that they collect his dust and have his fragrance. On Saturday, they men were challenged to be the kind of dad and father that their kids would like imitate when they group up. In addition to the services, the men (and many of their sons) enjoyed trap shooting, basketball, ping pong, washer toss, and fishing.

Rev. Jason Hill Installed at Cape Girardeau

Bouldrey Memorial Work and Witness Chapel Planned

The Missouri District NMI is sponsoring a Work and Witness trip to build a chapel in memory of Mrs. Barb Bouldrey, our late Missouri District NMI President, who passed away last year (2009). There are two separate trips planned during the months of October and November. The first team will in Ecuador from October 16-29th and the 2nd team will be there from November 1st thru the 13th. Jim Jenkerson Accepts Call To DeSoto

Update on Fred Yates

Fred and Debbie wish to thank the district family for their prayers during these past several days. Fred has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This type of cancer has been known to respond well to treatment. He had his first round of chemo therapy last evening (Thursday) here in St. Louis at the Missouri Baptist Hospital. As of this posting he has not experienced any of the side-effects associated with chemo therapy, for which he is very grateful. He is in very good spirits and is scheduled to go home on Monday. Please continue to keep him and Debbie in your prayers, as well as David and Pam Yates as they continue to run the day-to-day operations at Pinecrest. Thank you.

Fred Yates Taken To Hospital

Fred Yates, the director of Missouri District's Pinecrest Campground, was taken to the hospital in St. Louis by ambulance this morning, Monday, July 27th. He is undergoing some tests this evening and will have further tests in the morning. Once the these are complete, they will have a better idea of what is going on. David Yates, Fred and Debbie's son, report that he is comfortable and may be in the hospital until Thursday or Friday. Thank you for your prayers on his and Debbie's behalf. Rev. O.K. Perkinson Passes Away

Rev. O.K. Perkinson, former Nazarene missionary and Missouri District retired elder, passed away on Tuesday, June 23rd in Columbia, MO. His visitation will be Friday, June 26th at 10:00 AM and the funeral service at 11:00 AM, both at the Columbia First church of the Nazarene.

Pinecrest Continues to Recover After Storm

Pinecrest continues to clean up after the severe straight line winds which ripped through the campground last Friday, May 8th. After one week, they are still without power and it is estimated that at least eleven poles will need to be replaced before power can be restored throughout the campground. Several buildings were damaged, including Pinecrest Chapel and Sycamore, which needs extensive repairs before it can be used. All in all, there were 22 trees laying on the buildings. Fred and Debbie are very grateful for the generators which were brought in from several our churches last weekend and which are being used to keep the refrigerators and freezers running. They estimate this past week that volunteers have logged in over 1,100 hours of donated labor. More are expected to help this weekend. Fred and Debbie regret to have had to again cancel all groups this coming weekend.

Annapolis Praise Report

Pastor Howard Casteel (Pastor, Annapolis Church of the Nazarene) wanted to praise God for a wonderful event that occurred with his people this past week. He writes, "Last Sunday, April 22nd at 5:57 pm we were getting ready for evening service and I received a phone call from one of our couples, Nellie and Carl Scaggs. Carl has been going through chemotherapy for his cancer treatment, but is on the mend. Carl wanted to see me right away. I announced to the congregation that I needed to go, but that they should go ahead with the service. When I arrived at the residence, Carl told me that he wanted to receive Jesus into his heart. Nellie is already a Christian and a member of our church and Carl has attended with Nellie, faithfully, for many, many years. So I prayed with Carl and he did receive Jesus. I returned to the church around 6:20 pm, and our people had been praying and praising God. The service continued with much shouting and healing when I shared with our people what had happened. We are so thankful for God's work in our church and with our people. He is so faithful!"

What an awesome time at MAX! We were well represented again this year. Our Quizzers made one of there best showings yet, Talent was outstanding and we were very successful in Athletics. And once again we took home the Blue Division MAD MAX Award (see picture)!!! Thanks to all the coaches and sponsors. I hope everyone had a great time. Can't wait to do it again next year! Mrs. Barb Bouldrey Passes Away

Mrs. Barb Bouldrey passed away Saturday evening, April 18th, 2009 around 5:00 PM. Her brief battle with cancer ended and her eternal reward begun! Pastor Palmer and Mary were there to be with John and their son at the time of her passing.

During the last week of Barb's earthly life both John and Barb exhibited God’s grace at work in a marvelous way! She will certainly be missed by her family and friends, but our confidence is in the fact that just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, we too shall be raised to live eternally with Him. As Revelation 14:13 says, “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.”

John and Barb have pastored on the Missouri District for 33 years. The upcoming District NMI Convention in August would have been Barb’s 18th convention as Missouri District NMI President and her final one, as she was planning on stepping down and allowing the convention to elect a new president. Pastor John served for fifteen consecutive years on the Missouri District Advisory Board (from 1993-2008).

Her memorial service was today, Tuesday, April 21st, at the Sikeston First Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Michael G. Palmer, D. S., officiated.

As Barb did not have traditional medical insurance, the district is encouraging our churches to consider sending a love offering directly to Pastor John Bouldrey to help defray the cost of her final medical expenses. His address is:

African Choir to Sing at St. Louis South County

The Africa Nazarene University Shangilia Singers from Nairobi, Kenya, will be singing at the St. Louis South County Church of the Nazarene on Tuesday, June16th, at 7:00 PM. The choir will be on tour as they make their way to General Assembly in Orlando, FL. This promises to be a fun evening of ministry and music!

Columbia First Hires Associate Pastor

Rev. Mark West reports that Columbia First has brought on Pastor Jason Ticgelaor to their staff as Associate Pastor to Young Families. Jason is a locally licensed minister and is pursuing his Masters in Pastoral Ministry through Northwest Nazarene University. He and his wife Jamie, have 5 boys all under the age of 8 with two sets of twins. Jamie is a physician's assistant and works in a clinical setting. Pastor West writes, “They are a great addition to our staff and we look forward to many years of ministry growth together.”

Bridge of Hope Finds Permanent Home

St. Louis Bridge of Hope, a New Start church on the Missouri District, took possession of their new property today, March 12, 2009. Located in the Tower Grove section in the heart of St. Louis, the new facility will give the Bridge of Hope a permanent home. Since being planted at the MIssouri District Assembly in August of 2007, the church has had to relocate several times, but has continued to grow.

Currently only half of the building is being utilized, but the plans are to open up the other half and renovate the apartments in the second story as soon as possible.

Pastor Shawen Farley has a passion for the people to whom he has already been ministering in the neighborhood. It will be exciting to see what God does through this new ministry tool!

PK's Attend Annual Retreat at MNU

Twelve preacher's kids from the Missouri District attended the annual PK retreat at MNU in February. This weekend event is hosted each year by the Admission's Department and draws junior and senior high school pastor's kids from all over the North-Central MNU Region. About 80 students attended. The special speaker was Michael Palmer, son Pastor Mike and Mary Palmer. Rev. Kevin Muttschall was the sponsor from the Missouri District.

Rev. Marion B. Holloway Passes Away

Rev. Marion B. Holloway of St. Charles, Missouri, died on Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at the age of 87. Dearest husband of the late Gerri Holloway, who preceded him in death on May 13, 2008. Marion and Gerri were also the parents of Sharon Mund, Pastor's wife, Wright City Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Holloway was ordained in 1950 and pastored several churches on the Missouri District. He was granted retirement status in 1989. His funeral service was held on Monday, February, 16, 2009, at the Harvester Church of the Nazarene. He was burreid at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis. Perhaps twenty Missouri District pastors and associates were in attancance to share in his celebration service and form a honor guard for Rev. Holloway's casket as it left the church.

Ice Storm Reports from SEMO Churches

Several of our South East Missouri pastors have been without electricity for the greater part of this past week. Here are a few updates:

Bernie - We just had power restored at 7:35 pm Sunday Feb 1, 2009. The WHOLE TOWN was out of power since Tue of last week. A Special thanks to Dexter First for inviting Bernie Nazarene to worship with them this morning. It will be at least a month or longer before the cleanup is complete. We lost all 9 trees at the parsonage. Praise the Lord just minor damage from the falling limbs and trees ... It looks like a War Zone (Picture) - Pastor Jon

Malden - Malden had been told it could take 2 or 3 weeks to restore their power. They have been invited to fellowship at Bernie and probably will.

Sikeston Eastside – “After seven days without power, we finally have it. We camped out in the living room with candles, lamps, cooked on a propane grill (while cracking a window). We did have not water the whole time. After our phone came on this afternoon, I received a call from someone to tell me that two of our ladies had spent the last five days at Sikeston Field House, where the Red Cross is running a shelter for the community. I was able to check on both. One is staying at the shelter until the power comes home at her house. The other is back home. Some of our people left the area to spend time with family who had power. Praise God for the way He has taken care of us. Other than being cold at times, we have come out of this with God's help. Please continue to pray for the community … Thanks again, Brian Blankenship.

Sikeston First– “Power came on Sat night, but we have no phone service or internet. We had no church Sunday ... Most of the town has power now, but it looks like a war zone … It was a horrible experience hearing the limbs break and fall for two nights. Sam Griggs and Laura (Kehoe) Joined in Marriage

Mr. Sam Griggs and Laura Kehoe were united in matrimony this past Saturday, January 25, 2009, in Suffield, Connecticut. Sam is currently on staff as part-time worship pastor at the Fulton Heartland church and is the son of Mr. & Rev. Steve & Cheri Griggs (Cheri is currently the children's pastor at Arnold and Missouri District Children's Director). They met while attending Olivet Nazarene University. Congratulations!

Cal Callender Accepts Church in Texas

Rev. Cal and Ceresa Callender, former youth pastors at St. Louis Gateway Central, have accepted the call to Big Springs, TX as their senior pastor. They will start there around the first of February. Cal has also served as the Missouri District NYI president for the past year and a half. They, along with their daughter, Morgan, will be greatly missed on the Missouri District, but we wish them all God's best in their new assignment.

Rev. Greg Gilberto (Pastor, Poplar Bluff), who has served as the district NYI vice-president, will now fulfill the duties of district NYI president until the NYI district convention in August.

Special Prayer Needed for Adele Storkson

Adele Storkson (Pastor’s Wife, Montgomery City) has had emergency surgery in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was on a trip when, due to extreme abdominal pain, she had to be removed from the plane and taken to a hospital. Brother Sam has specifically asked that the district pray that Adele will be able to get some good sleep at night. She will have to stay there in Salt Lake City until at least January 31st.

The Montgomery City church has made it possible for Brother Sam to leave today (Friday) for St. Lake City to be with her. Thank you for your prayers on her behalf.

Eldon Church Plans Trip to Shell, Ecuador

Many have heard of the “Gates of Splendor” and the “End of the Spear”. These are based on the account of missionaries who gave their lives in 1956 to share the gospel with the natives of Mera, a remote village in Ecuador (an hour's flight from Shell). Today those missionaries are highly honored there with a museum and monument to them. Twenty-four from the Eldon church and three from the Macon church will be ministering there December 27th through January 10th. Seven teens and three adult sponsors will be staying for a week, ministering to a village known as Shuar (an hour and a half beyond Shell), conducting a VBS and interacting with the youth of the community. Shuar is a church planted by the Shell Church. The teen team will then return to Shell to minister in the church there. The rest of the team will stay in Shell to work on the church, doing plumbing, electrical, painting, and masonry work on the third story of the church’s new addition. One Eldon couple will be staying for three months. The Halls will be supervising the effort, along with Pastor Angel and his wife Marcella. The Shell and Eldon churches have been prayer partners for months now, and there is much excitement as they will minister together. The Eldon Church made and sold 5,287 apple pies this fall to help fund this ministry. Pictures of pie making (and an explanation of what an apple pie is) were sent to the Shell church. These were shared with the Shell congregation in October for their centennial celebration. Please pray for the team's safety and a great harvest! (Note: The picture above is of the work site).

Rev. Clarance Casteel Passes Away

Rev. Clarence Casteel passed on Monday, December 15, 2008. He had been under the care of hospice.

Rev. Casteel pastored the Annapolis Church of the Nazarene from 1964 until his retirement earlier this year. A service of nearly 44 years!

POP stands for "Pastoring on Purpose" and is a semi-annual event on the Missouri District.

8 Baptized from Division of Youth Services

Rev. Jami Kyonka reports that, "At our recent Ministry Team Retreat, I had the opportunity to share a vision of expanding the Division of Youth Services Ministry (DYS) to include baptisms following conversions. On November 2, we held our first baptism at Trinity, a local church for this DYS campus. We asked Rev. Kyle Rainbolt to baptize these young men so that they would meet a youth pastor and recognize the value of finding a church with youth ministry when they return home. Trinity responded in a wonderful way. We had 120 plus people there. When the bus arrived with the boys, it was followed by a caravan of cars carrying the families of these young men. Trinity lavished them with homemade cookies, hugs, cheers, laughter, personal notes, little gifts, invitations and pictures. The parents responded with appreciation, tears, thankfulness, and interest in the Nazarene church. I gave every family and every boy a card with pertinent information about us and our monaz website so they can find us later. This particular Harvester ministry was developed 6 years ago by Karol Ackerman (Trinity) and me when we asked the Lord to help us establish a Bible study ministry. We have methodically taught and trained 12 teachers, from various churches, to cover the campus of teens with weekly Bible studies, prayer and the message of holiness. Over the 6 years, we have lost count of their prayers, but we all agree we have witnessed at least 200 transformations."

PB & JAM Slam Children's Retreat a Success!

About 60 children and 30 sponsors and workers attended the first annual PB & JAM Slam Children's Retreat held last weekend at Pinecrest. The "PB" stands for Phineas Bresee, the founder of the Church of the Nazarene. The highest award in Caravans also bears his name. The "JAM" stands for "Jeremiah a Missionary". The retreat was a combined effort of the Missouri District Caravans and the Missouri District NMI. During the Friday night and Saturday retreat the children heard from missionaries Russell and Donna Lovett and each child earned two Caravan badges. However, even those children which were not involved in a local Caravan program still participated and took home badges just like the regular Caravan kids. As part of the event, the kids also helped pack 42 Crisis Care Kits (7 boxes), which will be eventually shipped all over the world in the event of a natural disaster.

Harvester Hosts 5th Annual Car Show

The 5th Annual Family Car Show was held at Harvester Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, October 4th. They had over 125 cars and over 500 people in attendance. Their purpose is to make the community aware that Jesus is in the "restoration" business. These craftsmen restore old cars, Jesus restores lives.

Missouri MNU Students Involved in Youth in Mission

Two Missouri District Mid-America students are involved in this year's Youth in Mission program. Amanda Wilson (STL Bridge of Hope) and Josh Damph (STL Ferguson) are both spending the summer in Africa with the denomination's Youth in Mission program. The college students had to pay their own expenses in order to minister during the annual program. Please keep them in your prayers.

3 Missouri Students Singing in MNU PR Group

All three ladies are from the Missouri District and will be college sophomores next year. St. Louis South County Relocates

The St. Louis South County Church of the Nazarene held their first Sunday services in their new sanctuary on Mother's Day, May 11th, 2008. The property, which ironically is the same church building that they had moved from nearly six year ago, is located only about four miles from their previous location on Telegraph road in St. Louis. Their first Sunday did not go on without some challenges as the power grid for their area went out on Sunday morning. However, they held services anyway with the natural light that came through the windows. Over 100 were there!

Pastor Greg and Sara McClain are the proud parents of a new baby girl! Mary Ellen McClain was born April 24 at 5:47 pm at Osage Beach, MO Regional Hospital. She weighed 8 lbs. 3 oz. and was 20 1/4 in. long. She joins her big sisters: Lexie, age 3 and Leah age 1. Her parents think she is just beautiful and agree with her oldest sister, Lexie, that, "she's an angel."

Arnold Church Burns Mortgage

The Arnold church recently paid off their 10 year mortgage 4 months early! Church board secretary, Ruth Rowden, had the honor of burning the mortgage papers. A BBQ dinner was enjoyed by everyone following the ceremony.

Rev. Shukry Braik Passes Away

Rev. Dr. Shukry Braik passed away Thursday evening, March 27th, following a long battle with cancer. He is survived, in part, by his wife, Arphneh, and his four children. He was ordained in 1974 and pastored the Macon and the St. Louis North County Churches on the Missouri District. He served most recently as Resident Counselor at the Harvester Church of the Nazarene. Rudins Accepts Oregon Camp Director's Position

Rev. Chip and Connie Rudin have accepted the manager's position on the Oregon Pacific District to manage Kellogg Springs Christian Camp. Their primary responsibilities will be the over all directing of the camp, setting the vision for the camp, marketing the camp, raising funds to build a new lodge, improve the water system & take the camp to the churches on the ORPAC District. Chip writes, "The decision to leave family & friends on the MO District has not been easy for us. A big part of our lives will be left here. We have prayed this through & know beyond doubt that the Lord is leading us to Oregon. Connie & I both believe that our best days of ministry are still in front of us. Thank you for your prayers & concern for us. We love you folks on the MO District." They will be leaving the MO District on March 31. (Note: Rev. Gary Garrett will be directing the Men's Retreat this year)

Rev. Huffaker To Speak at Pastor's Advance

Rev. Bob Huffaker will be the featured speaker at this year's Pastor's Advance to be held May 6th-8th at Pinecrest Camp and Conference Center. Dr. Huffaker was raised on a farm in Grassland, Texas, a small farming community. He attended a small country church of around 50 people through his high school years. After graduation from Bethany Nazarene College in 1962 with a degree in Religion, he re-opened the Nazarene Church in Clarendon, Texas, which had been closed for ten years. On his first Sunday, there were only eight people in attendance. He subsequently pastored churches in Texas and Arkansas before coming to Grove City in 1989. Dr. Huffaker has pastored every size church – from eight to OVER 3000. He pastored Grove City Church of the Nazarene for 16 years (1989-2005). During that time, attendance increased from 600 to 3000 in morning worship

Missouri District PKs Attend Annual MNU Retreat

13 Missouri District junior and senior high school pastor's kids (PKs) attended this year's PK at Mid-America Nazarene University (10 of them are pictured at left). This annual event brings together pastor's kids from all across the north-central educational zone. Besides just "hanging out", the youth are involved in worship experiences, small groups, and lots of fun and fellowship.

Rev. Clarence Casteel Honored at Retirement Celebration

Rev. Michael Palmer, Missouri District Superintendent, presented Rev. Clarence Casteel a "Faithful Servant" plaque in celebration of Rev. Casteel's 43 years of service to the Annapolis Church of the Nazarene. The service was held last Saturday, March 1st, and was in their new sanctuary. It was attended by many of his family, church members, and friends from across the district.

Jeff Roever Installed as Frankclay Pastor

Rev. Jeff Roever was installed by Missouri District Superintendent, Rev. Michael Palmer as the Frankclay Church's newest pastor. The service took place last Sunday, March 2nd. Before coming to the Frankclay church, the Rev. Roever was the youth pastor at the Wright City Church of the Nazarene.
